- ARCh is Oxfordshire’s “happy reading charity” for children .Our vision is to inspire a love of reading in children from all of Oxfordshire’s communities, to enhance their wellbeing and improve their life chances. We do this via a growing network of trained and supported volunteer reading helpers. Children are selected for ARCh support by their school and benefit from year long personalised support from their ARCh volunteer. Each session involves having fun sharing books, games and lively conversation. By year end schools report dramatic improvements in children’s reading, their communication skills and their confidence and self esteem. Volunteers benefit hugely too in many different ways. Effects are transformative for everyone! With 2026 designated as the National Year of Reading we are aiming to help a record breaking 1,000 children across the county this year.
