Kate is running the Blenheim 7k for Sobell House on 15 May. She says: “On 6th February 2022, my amazing Father-in-Law passed away from bladder cancer aged just 64.

“He was an incredible man, a force of nature, who lived for his family and was loved by so many. What made Roddy so special was his endless fundraising and charity work and his commitment to helping others however he could.

“My husband summed it all up when he described his dad as a legend and listed just some of the events Roddy had organised and participated in, as an individual and as part of Faringdon Rotary Group.

“He dressed as Santa and visited local villages, playgroups, libraries and care homes, he helped put up all the local Christmas trees and organised the Faringdon Christmas 2 ‘Lights on’ event, the Buscot Park 5 & 10K, local firework display, and the Duck Race at Millets Farm. He sold Pizza’s at Truck Fest and programmes at RIAT. He ran 2 marathons and on his 60th Birthday climbed Mt Kilimanjaro- all for charity and to help others.

“He took on cancer, just like he did with every challenge and he gave it his all, even raising over £8000 for McMillan as he “Braved the Shave” just before his Chemo treatment.

“His capabilities for giving were endless and as a family we want to continue that legacy. As a relatively new runner, I want to challenge myself and what better incentive than to do it for Roddy, to use his endless enthusiasm as my motivation.

“Sobell House not only provided respite care when Roddy needed it most, but also gave much needed support to us as a family and we would love to give something back. I know Roddy would approve and will be with me every step of the way, on 15 May for the 7k run at Blenheim and also on 16  October when I will be running The Oxford Half Marathon for Sobell too. He never wanted recognition or praise for what he did, but we will always know he was a secret superhero and our inspiration. “
